A year ago, we wrote a blog explaining how traditional school planners are better than digital planners for retaining memories. This year, we wanted to reiterate this information and explain why Campus Agendas by Inter-State Studio are a good traditional planner choice.
- The study. Last year we referenced a scientific study conducted at Princeton that explains the speed at which we can type can be detrimental to our understanding of the material. Our brains benefit by being forced to slow down and selectively take notes, making us do some critical thinking about what we’re hearing. The same can be applied to dates and homework assignments. Asking your students to write down what is due each week is like saying it to them twice: they hear it once, and then they repeat it to themselves when they write it down.
- Reminder reliance. The brain is a muscle. Wait – no, it isn’t. But, just like a muscle, it needs to be used or else it gets weak. An automated reminder is convenient, but by no means should it be the only way you can remember an event. Besides, the school-aged generation has grown up with technology, so the skills that will not be taught to them are more likely to be analog skills, like pen-to-paper note-taking and recalling information using only memory. Traditional school planners help students do exactly this.
- Excellent Page Layout. Our planners’ pages are laid out in a way that suits any grade level. We offer three different levels of traditional school planners: Primary, Elementary, and Secondary. The Primary page layout has activities on the sides, like a place to write weekly vocabulary words; the Elementary planner has a handy “things to study” area; and the Secondary planner has inspirational quotes to keep students motivated.
