You may know Inter-State as a company that provides school pictures and/or yearbooks, but something you may not know is that we also provide traditional student planners.
According to the Association for Psychological Science, using the handwritten note-taking method is much more effective for remembering information for longer periods of time than taking digital notes. It goes without saying (but we will say it anyway) that the same goes for assignment notes.
While a traditional student planner won’t alert the student about upcoming deadlines and may not come with all of the bells and whistles of a digital version, there are many benefits for going old-school when it comes to student planners…
1. A Lesson in Responsibility
Alerts are kind of like using calculators on an easy math test. You don’t need them, but you grow to rely on them. Teach kids to be responsible and help them to build the skill of remembering appointments and obligations. Don’t allow them to go through life expecting something or someone to remind them about important dates and deadlines.
2. Non-Hosted
Digital student planners have to be hosted by a company responsible for your information. What happens when the host has a glitch or is down? You and your students are down, too. Any type of glitch within the online program can throw off your entire class schedule. Plus, you don’t have to rely on a company to update information every time you have a new student or class changes.
3. A Journal of Academic History
Traditional student planners allow for students to keep a journal, of sorts, of their year and their achievements. They don’t have to give it back when the school year is over, so it can be kept as a testament to the year’s accomplishments.
The point is, not only is it scientifically better to write down your plans and assignments, but it also has a lot of great bonus benefits.
